Off Air – Story 9 Update

This is the final epilogue for “Where Home Is” and the last story in Volume 1 of Off Air!

I’ve been thinking about some of the changes that might happen to “Yes ka No ka Hanbun ka” when they animate it, especially when it comes to the name of the network Asahi TV. There is a real TV Asahi, but I wonder if the name is too similar and it forces them change it. The kanji is completely different, so it’s easier to get away with in print, but I do wonder about the anime.

But I’m totally looking forward to seeing Ushio’s short films and Kei’s “black history” as a fledgling announcer. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I really want to see them animated!

Off Air – Story 8 Update

The next side story is a high school AU of Ushio and Kei!

Ichiho-sensei had a meet and greet over the weekend, and she had a lot fun doodles that she got from Takemiya-sensei. The design for the mascot Asazou is finally revealed!

It’s an adorable baby elephant! NGL, I totally imagined something like an old man version of Anpanman, because the ‘zou’ naming is so old-fashioned and his face is round like the morning sun. ๐Ÿ˜‚ But yeah, ‘zou’ also can mean elephant.

All the participants also got a booklet and postcard with a sketch of Kei and Ushio walking to the convenience store together at night. Apparently the sketch was an idea for the Off Air 2 cover, but they were able to use it here for the goodies. The short story in the booklet will be made available in a doujinshi at the end of the year.

Off Air – Story 6.5 Update

This next part wraps up the ficlet section of Off Air Volume 1! It’s so fun to see Kei, Ushio, and Tatsuki goofing around.

I finished reading through my copy of Off Air 2~ Although most of the stories can be read if you’ve read through Volume 3 and Off Air, there are a few stories that reference events and spoilers in the spinoffs. In light of this new information, I think I will prioritize releasing the spinoffs first and release stories from Off Air 2 whenever I have extra time to work on them. Depending on how spoilerish the new story in December is, I may put both on hold to work on the new story. Anyway, stay tuned~

Yes, No, or Maybe Half? – Vol. 3 Ch. 36 Update

Ushio wakes Kei up bright and early in the morning to show him something.

And that is the last full chapter of Volume 3, besides the extra. There are also side stories and epilogues for Volume 3 found in Off Air! There are 3 total chapters released today. Don’t miss reading all the parts!

How did you like Volume 3? It hurt a lot, but I thought it was all worth it in the end.

With the anime adaptation announcement, it’s interesting to see how people translate “Yes ka No ka Hanbun ka.” My first instinct was to translate it as Yes, No, or Down the Middle? But as I read through the story, the concept of “halves” was so strong, that I thought that I should include the word “half” in the title. I considered “half and half,” “halfies,” and “split in half” for a bit, but I think that “maybe half” rolled off the tongue a little better. There were also the lines where Kei admits that maybe half of him loves Ushio in Volume 1. Anyway, it’s always a struggle coming up with a translation that captures the essence of a title, but I hope that you found it interesting.

Yes, No, or Maybe Half? – Vol. 3 Ch. 35 Update

Kei is exhausted from thinking, speaking, and crying, but he has what he needs in his arms again.

HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE OFF AIR 2 RELEASE!!! “Yes ka No ka Hanbun ka” is in talks for an anime!!!! How exciting is that!? And it so deserves it too!!

There’s also a mini-blurb hinting at the new story in December.

โ€”I don’t want anyone to know just how cute you can be.

Uh-oh, does this mean jealousy on Ushio’s part?

I’ve been holding off on this doodle from Takemiya-sensei that she did in response to the mini-blurb printed on the bottom cover sash for “Where Home Is”โ€”If you lose your way home, I’ll come and bring you back.

What happened between Kei and Ushio makes me want to cry, but this doodle makes me want to laugh. I love it.

P.S. The sash that Kei is wearing says “Tokyo 1st District.”

Yes, No, or Maybe Half? – Vol. 3 Ch. 34 Update

It’s do or die time for Kei, and he’s determined to get Ushio back.

Sensei’s work twitter unveiled the full cover spread for Off Air 2! (Thanks for the little peek at Ushio’s lower back, Takemiya-sensei!) It also has the full list of doujinshi stories. In addition to the three that I had previously mentioned, there is sugar me, about a long day for Kei without any food, then running into a door at work, a misunderstanding, and maybe a sprinkle of Halloween magic that gets Ushio some one-on-one time with Kunieda-san, and Head-Spinning Diary, about Kei and Ushio’s New Years together following Volume 3. There is also a brand-new story called Love Don’t Come Easy. Ahhhhhh!!! I want to read!

There are two more chapters left for this volume and then I’ll be all caught up with the main series until the new story releases in December. I have the rest of Off Air and Off Air 2 and the spinoffs featuring Tatsuki and others from Asahi TV to translate. I will finish Off Air Volume 1 first because it contains direct epilogues and side stories to wrap up the story in Volume 3. But after that, how would you like me to prioritize Off Air Volume 2 and the spinoffs? Let me know by voting in the poll or leaving me a comment!

How should I prioritize the releases after Off Air Volume 1?

  • Keep the same schedule and prioritize Off Air Volume 2. (43%, 3 Votes)
  • Keep the same schedule and prioritize the spinoffs. (29%, 2 Votes)
  • Adjust the schedule to update one chapter of each series per week. (This means you get a total of 2 chapters per week.) (29%, 2 Votes)

No promises, because there will always be RL obligations that take precedent, but it’ll give me an idea of what to prioritize.
