Yes, No, or Maybe Half? – Vol. 2 Extra 1

Kei woke up past noon, fumbled with his cell phone still half asleep, and ordered souvenirs he could bring with him to the office. He ate the breakfast that Ushio had prepared as he read his newspapers. His body was still tired from all of the activity that he was subjected to, and so he lazed around the house. And then evening rolled around.

“…Hey, I didn’t get a vacation!”

“Huh?”

“I’m going back to work noontime tomorrow!”

“You got your vacation. You remember everything, don’t you?”

There were no holes in his memory (probably), but it was like everything was filed into his brain in an instant, and it didn’t feel like Kei had done anything that week.

“I didn’t even do anything.”

“Sure you did. Go write out your summer diary.”1

Like hell I will.

“I hate this, this a complete fraud! Rewind it all back.”

“Go find someone with god-like powers and ask them.”

“Hey, you had more of a summer vacation than me! You thief!”

Remembering how Ushio got a few fleeting days with Kunieda-san, Kei became upset all over again.

“Hmm, maybe you’re right. I wonder how often things like this happen? Thank you, whoever you are, with the god-like powers.”

“You sound so ungrateful!”

Time passed as they bantered back and forth, and Kei’s Sunday evening depression was gloomier than usual.

“Ahhhh, I don’t wanna go back tomorrow!!”

The most important point to enjoying summer vacation to its fullest was of course to treasure every passing second of it.

****************

This is my first time writing a direct sequel that isn’t a spinoff, and I had a lot of fun doing it. To everyone who started reading from this volume, I would love it if you also picked up the first volume of this series, “Yes, No, or Maybe Half?”

Because this is a sequel, I wanted to come up with a title that is easily relatable to the series. I thought a lot about it, but in the end, I stuck with the idea of ending the title with a “ka,”2 and this is the result…

I am so happy to see Takemiya-sensei’s illustrations continue from the first volume! The covers for the two books look so cute next to each other, I love it! They win the kissy face championships hands down! If Announcer Kunieda has to hold that face for three minutes waiting for a kiss, he’s going to snap though.

Thank you all so very much.

Translation Notes

  1. Writing a summer diary is typical homework students have to do over summer vacation.
  2. The original Japanese names of the two volumes are Yes ka No ka Hanbun ka and Sekai no Mannaka. Volume 3 is titled Ouchi no Arika.

  1. A little cute vignette. I’m too amused at how Kei gets jealous of himself. Work harder to keep your man satisfied, Kei! XD
